Is your website losing you customers? 5 quick checks

By Driton Gashi · · 2 min read

How do you know if your website is losing customers?

Run these five checks on your own site, on your phone. Each one takes less than a minute. If your website fails even one, visitors are probably leaving before they call, book or buy.

Check 1: Does your website load fast?

Open your site on your phone using mobile data. If the page takes three seconds instead of one, the chance that a visitor leaves goes up by 32% (Google / SOASTA, 2017).

Quick test: run your address through Google PageSpeed Insights. Under 50 on mobile is a warning sign. We aim for 90 or more on every site we build.

Check 2: Does it work well on a phone?

More than half of all web traffic worldwide comes from phones (StatCounter, 2026). If your visitors have to zoom, scroll sideways or hunt for tiny buttons, many of them give up.

Quick test: can you read every text without zooming, and tap every button with your thumb?

Check 3: Is the next step obvious?

Can a visitor call you, book an appointment or ask for a quote in one tap? If they have to search for your phone number or contact page, many simply go to the next result on Google.

Quick test: look at your homepage on your phone for five seconds. Is there one clear button that says what to do next?

Check 4: Is your information up to date?

About half of consumers say wrong opening hours online would lower their trust in a business: 51% in BrightLocal’s research (BrightLocal). The same goes for old prices, services you no longer offer and outdated photos.

Quick test: compare your opening hours, phone number and address on your website and on Google Maps. Do they match?

Check 5: Is your website secure?

Since 2018, Google Chrome marks every page without HTTPS as “Not secure” in the address bar. Many visitors leave as soon as they see that warning, especially before filling in a form.

Quick test: open your site and look for the padlock next to the address. If you see “Not secure”, your site needs an SSL certificate.

What should you do if your website fails a check?

  • Speed or phone problems usually mean the site is built on a heavy template or too many plugins. A rebuild is often cheaper than endless fixes.
  • No clear next step is a design problem. One strong call-to-action button per page often brings more enquiries straight away.
  • Outdated information needs an easy way to edit the site, or a care plan where someone does it for you.
  • No HTTPS is a quick fix that any good host or agency can do in a day.

These are the same five checks from our short video. If you want help, our web design service covers all five, and our pricing page shows what it costs, starting at €1,490 for a complete business website.
